Ice Rescue

Warms days or warm baths are the perfect place for sensory ice play! This project is super easy to pull together with just a few items you already have and it’s amazing for the littles to explore the texture and cold of the ice. Plus, it’s so fun for them to help their favorite bath toys escape. It’s like a baby version of an Escape Room!

Recipe.

  • Gather a few of your child’s smaller toys. We love bath toys for this project, but any baby-safe toy will work.

  • Place the toys in an ice cube tray or empty food container. Fill with water, making sure a part of every toy is not completely submerged in the water. It’s fun and adorable to see them peeking out.

  • Add a single drop of food coloring.

  • Freeze

  • Place the frozen cubes or containers in a large baby-safe bowl, water table or tub. Add a baby-safe cup (without the lid), a funnel, a strainer, and a sponge. In a bathtub, the warm water will melt the ice and color your tub fairly quickly so don’t miss your babe’s reaction as the tub changes color! If using a bowl or water table, be sure to add warm water to your set up.

  • Have fun!

Toddler Add-On (Ages 3+)

If your toddler is 3+ and past the stage of exploring everything by taste, add a bowl of salt and a toothbrush. Your toddler can sprinkle salt on the ice and scrub with a toothbrush to excavate the toys. The salt will help melt the ice, but if it’s a large block of ice you can give them a cup of warm water to help the process too.

Important Tip: We recommend doing this project in the bathtub or outdoors for easy cleanup.
